कांग्रेस ने अपने पूर्व नेता गुलाम नबी आजाद की ओर से किए गए प्रहार पर पलटवार करते हुए सोमवार को कहा कि आजाद को उसे बदनाम करने का काम सौंपा गया है। पार्टी महासचिव जयराम रमेश ने सवाल किया कि आजाद हर मिनट अपने ‘विश्वासघात’ को सही क्यों ठहरा रहे हैं? रमेश ने ट्वीट किया, ”आज़ाद वर्षों तक जिस पार्टी में रहे, जहां उन्हें सब कुछ मिला, उन्हें उसी पार्टी को बदनाम करने का काम सौंपा गया है। यह उनके स्तर को और गिरा रहा है।
उन्होंने आजाद पर निशाना साधते हुए सवाल किया, आखिर क्यों हर मिनट वह अपने विश्वासघात को सही ठहरा रहे हैं? उन्हें आसानी से बेनकाब किया जा सकता है, लेकिन हम अपना स्तर क्यों गिराएं ? आजाद ने सोमवार को कहा कि देश की सबसे पुरानी पार्टी की नींव कमजोर हो गई है और वह कभी भी बिखर सकती है। उन्होंने यहां संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में यह भी कहा कि ”बीमार” कांग्रेस ‘कंपाउंडर’ से दवा ले रही है, चिकित्सक से नहीं।
