राज्य निर्वाचन आयोग की अनुमति के बगैर शाहीन बाग इलाके में चुनावी सभा करने को लेकर सवाल करने पर कांग्रेस के पूर्व विधायक आसिफ खान ने एक पुलिसकर्मी की कथित रूप से ‘पिटाई’ कर दी। पुलिस ने बताया कि घटना के सिलसिले में शाहीन बाग थाने में भारतीय दंड संहिता की धाराओं 186 और 353 (मारपीट और सरकारी कर्मचारी को जबरन काम करने को रोकना) में मामला दर्ज किया गया है।
पुलिस के अनुसार, निगम चुनाव में शाहीन बाग से कांग्रेस प्रत्याशी अरीबा खान के पिता आरिफ खान तैयब मस्जिद के सामने 20-30 लोगों को संबोधित कर रहे थे। पुलिस उपायुक्त (दक्षिण-पूर्व) ईशा पांडेय ने दावा किया कि जब उप निरीक्षक अक्षय ने खान से पूछा कि क्या उनके पास इस बैठक की अनुमति है तो खान ”नाराज” हो गए और अक्षय के साथ ‘दुर्व्यवहार’ करना शुरू कर दिया। वहीं, खान का दावा है कि उन्हें पता चला था कि आप प्रत्याशी मतदाताओं को नकदी बांट रहा है, जिसके बाद वे तैयब मस्जिद गए थे।
