मुख्य न्यायाधीश डीवाई चंद्रचूड़ ने सोमवार को पांच न्यायाधीशों को उच्चतम न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश पद की शपथ दिलाई। न्यायमूर्ति चंद्रचूड़ ने शीर्ष अदालत सभागार में आयोजित एक समारोह में उच्च न्यायालयों के तीन मुख्य न्यायाधीशों और दो न्यायाधीशों को पद एवं गोपनीयता की शपथ दिलाई। राजस्थान उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति पंकज मिथल, पटना उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति संजय करोल, मणिपुर उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति पी वी संजय कुमार, पटना उच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति अहसानुद्दीन अमानुल्लाह और इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति मनोज मिश्रा को शपथ दिलाई गई।
इन पांचों न्यायाधीशों के पदभार ग्रहण करने के साथ ही शीर्ष अदालत के न्यायाधीशों की संख्या बढ़कर 32 हो गई है। इस अदालत के लिए स्वीकृत न्यायाधीशों की संख्या 34 है। उच्चतम न्यायालय कॉलेजियम ने 13 दिसंबर 2022 को न्यायमूर्ति मिथल, न्यायमूर्ति करोल, न्यायमूर्ति कुमार, न्यायमूर्ति अमानुल्लाह और न्यायमूर्ति मिश्रा को पदोन्नत कर शीर्ष अदालत में न्यायाधीश बनाने की सिफारिश की थी। राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू की स्वीकृति के बाद केंद्र सरकार के विधि एवं न्याय मंत्रालय ने शनिवार को पांचों न्यायाधीशों की नियुक्ति से संबंधित अधिसूचनाएं जारी की थीं।
उच्चतम न्यायालय कॉलेजियम की ओर से दो अन्य उच्च न्यायालयों के मुख्य न्यायाधीशों को शीर्ष अदालत का न्यायाधीश बनाने की सिफारिशें केंद्र सरकार के समक्ष लंबित हैं। कॉलेजियम ने 31 जनवरी को इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति राजेश बिंदल और गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति अरविंद कुमार को शीर्ष अदालत के न्यायाधीश के रूप में पदोन्नत करने की भी सिफारिश की थी।
