दिल्ली के जल मंत्री सत्येन्द्र जैन ने शनिवार को पूर्ण रूप से स्वचालित सीवेज शोधन संयंत्र का उद्घाटन किया, जो प्रतिदिन 31 करोड़ लीटर से ज्यादा अपशिष्ट जल का शोधन कर सकता है। यह संयंत्र शक्ति नगर, कमला नगर, रूप नगर, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय परिसर और नेहरू विहार सहित अन्य इलाकों के अपशिष्ट जल का शोधन करेगा। जैन ने बताया कि स्वरूप नगर, भलस्वा, संत नगर और वजीराबाद जैसी अनधिकृत कॉलोनी के अपशिष्ट जल का यहां शोधन किया जाएगा, जिससे अंतत: यमुना का जल स्वच्छ होगा।
मंत्री ने कहा, अब तक सहायक नाले में गिरने वाले मुख्य नालों के अपशिष्ट जल प्रवाह को अब रोककर बुराड़ी स्थित पंपिंग स्टेशन की मदद से शोधित किया जाए। शोधित जल को सहायक नाले में छोड़ा जाएगा, जहां से वह यमुना नदी में जाएगा। जैन ने कहा कि यमुना की स्वच्छता की दिशा में एसटीपी ‘मील का पत्थर’ साबित होगा, जिससे क्षेत्र के 23 लाख निवासियों को लाभ होगा। मंत्री ने संगम विहार और देवली विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में 71.51 किलोमीटर लंबी सीवर लाइन की आधारशिला भी रखी। उन्होंने कहा कि यह परियोजना 15 महीने में पूरी होगी और इससे इन क्षेत्रों में रहने वाले करीब 90,000 लोगों को लाभ होगा।
