दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने 2018 में फोटोग्राफर अंकित सक्सेना की गला काटकर नृशंस हत्या के मामले में तीन लोगों को आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई है। तीस हजारी अदालत के अतिरिक्त सत्र न्यायाधीश सुनील कुमार शर्मा ने संबंधित मामले की सुनवाई के बाद गुरुवार को अंकित की प्रेमिका के पिता, मां और मामा को आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई। अदालत ने तीनों 50-50 हजार रुपये का जुर्माना भी लगाया और कहा कि जुर्माने से एकत्र राशि मृतक के परिवार को सौंप दी जायेगी। अभियोजन पक्ष के मुताबिक अंकित की हत्या दूसरे समुदाय की लड़की के साथ उसके संबंधों का परिणाम थी।
अंकित की प्रेमिका शहजादी का परिवार इस रश्तिे के खिलाफ था और उसे इस रश्तिे को ख़त्म करने की चेतावनी दी थी। फरवरी 2018 में पश्चिमी दिल्ली के रघुबीर नगर इलाके में अंकित की शहजादी के परिवार से बहस हुई थी, जिसके बाद उसकी मां, पिता, भाई और मामा ने उस पर चाकू से हमला किया और उसकी गर्दन काट दी। हत्या के तुरंत बाद प्रेमिका को नारी निकेतन ले जाया गया, क्योंकि उसने आरोप लगाया कि उसके परिवार वाले उसे भी मार सकते हैं। कुछ ही दिनों में उसके माता-पिता और चाचा को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। मुकदमे के दौरान अंकित के एक दोस्त ने महत्वपूर्ण गवाही दी। अंकित की हत्या ने शहर को सदमे में डाल दिया था। मुख्यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल ने आश्वासन दिया था कि दिल्ली सरकार यह सुनिश्चित करेगी कि उसके परिवार को न्याय मिले और अपराधियों को अधिक से अधिक सजा मिले।
