कांग्रेस की केंद्रीय चुनाव समिति (सीईसी) की बुधवार को हुई बैठक में उत्तर प्रदेश की अमेठी और रायबरेली लोकसभा सीट को लेकर चर्चा नहीं हुई और अब इस बारे में पार्टी नेतृत्व फैसला करेगा कि वहां से कौन उम्मीदवार होंगे। सीईसी बैठक में उत्तर प्रदेश, तेलंगाना, झारखंड और गोवा के लिए लोकसभा उम्मीदवारों के नामों पर चर्चा की गई। कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे की अध्यक्षता वाली सीईसी की बैठक में पार्टी संसदीय दल की प्रमुख सोनिया गांधी, संगठन महासचिव केसी वेणुगोपाल और सीईसी के कई अन्य सदस्य शामिल हुए। उत्तर प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी के अध्यक्ष अजय राय ने अमेठी और रायबरेली के बारे में पूछे जाने पर कहा कि आज की बैठक में इसको लेकर कोई चर्चा नहीं हुई है। उन्होंने कहा, “पिछली बैठक में हमने प्रस्ताव दिया था और इस बारे में नेतृत्व को फैसला करना है।
कांग्रेस की उत्तर प्रदेश इकाई ने पिछले बृहस्पतिवार को पार्टी की केंद्रीय चुनाव समिति के समक्ष प्रस्ताव दिया कि अमेठी और रायबरेली लोकसभा क्षेत्रों से गांधी परिवार के सदस्य ही चुनाव लड़ें क्योंकि स्थानीय लोगों की यह मांग है। अमेठी में पिछले लोकसभा चुनाव में भारतीय जनता पार्टी की उम्मीदवार स्मृति ईरानी से राहुल गांधी को हार का सामना करना पड़ा था। लंबे समय तक रायबरेली का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वालीं सोनिया गांधी ने इस बार लोकसभा चुनाव नहीं लड़ने का फैसला किया है। राहुल गांधी को केरल के वायनाड से पहले ही उम्मीदवार घोषित किया जा चुका है। सूत्रों का कहना है कि कांग्रेस सीईसी ने बुधवार को उत्तर प्रदेश की छह लोकसभा सीट के लिए उम्मीदवारों के नामों को मंजूरी दी। पार्टी पहले ही राज्य के 9 लोकसभा क्षेत्रों के लिए अपने उम्मीदवार घोषित कर चुकी है।
कांग्रेस उत्तर प्रदेश में समाजवादी पार्टी के साथ गठबंधन में कुल 17 सीट पर चुनाव लड़ रही है। कांग्रेस सात अलग-अलग सूचियों में अब तक 194 उम्मीदवारों की घोषणा कर चुकी है। देश में 18वीं लोकसभा के लिए चुनाव 19 अप्रैल से शुरू होंगे। इसके बाद छह और चरणों में 26 अप्रैल, सात मई, 13 मई, 20 मई, 25 मई और एक जून को मतदान होगा। लोकसभा के 543 निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में लगभग 97 करोड़ पंजीकृत मतदाता 10.5 लाख मतदान केंद्रों पर अपने मताधिकार का इस्तेमाल कर सकेंगे।
