आईएमडी ने अप्रैल से जून तक उत्तर-पश्चिम भारत में सामान्य से अधिक अधिकतम तापमान और सामान्य से अधिक लू चलने की आशंका भी जताई है। आईएमडी के क्षेत्रीय पूर्वानुमान केंद्र के प्रमुख कुलदीप श्रीवास्तव ने कहा, दिल्ली में कम से कम एक सप्ताह तक मौसम शुष्क रहने के आसार हैं। किसी भी पश्चिमी विक्षोभ की अनुपस्थिति में 15-16 अप्रैल तक अधिकतम तापमान 38 डिग्री सेल्सियस तक पहुंच सकता है।
मौसम वैज्ञानिकों ने बताया कि 16-17 अप्रैल तक राजधानी में अलग-अलग स्थानों पर अधिकतम तापमान 40 डिग्री सेल्सियस तक जा सकता है, लेकिन ”लू चलने के आसार नहीं हैं। आईएमडी के मुताबिक, मैदानी इलाकों में तापमान 40 डिग्री सेल्सियस के पार जाने या सामान्य से 4.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस अधिक होने पर चलने वाली गर्म हवाओं को ‘लू’ घोषित किया जाता है। वहीं, तापमान सामान्य से 6.4 डिग्री अधिक होने पर ‘भीषण लू’ की घोषणा की जाती है।
