दिल्ली में इस मौसम में अभी तक 25 दिन ऐसे रहे हैं, जब अधिकतम तापमान 42 डिग्री सेल्सियस या उससे अधिक दर्ज किया गया है। वर्ष 2012 के बाद से यह सर्वाधिक लंबी अवधि है, जब तापमान इतना अधिक दर्ज किया गया है। भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (आईएमडी) के आंकड़ों से यह बात सामने आई है। आंकड़ों के मुताबिक, इससे पहले शहर में 2012 में 30 दिन अधिकतम तापमान 42 डिग्री सेल्सियस या उससे अधिक रहा था, जबकि 2010 में यह अवधि 35 दिन रही थी। राजधानी दिल्ली में पिछले साल ऐसे छह दिन और 2020 में ऐसे तीन दिन थे। इससे पहले, 1997 में मात्र दो दिन अधिकतम तापमान 42 डिग्री सेल्सियस से अधिक रहा था।
आंकड़ों के अनुसार, दिल्ली में 2019 में 16 दिन, 2018 में 19 दिन, 2017 एवं 2016 में 15 दिन, 2015 में 18 दिन, 2014 में 15 दिन और 2013 में 17 दिन अधिकतम तापमान 42 डिग्री सेल्सियस या उससे अधिक दर्ज किया गया, जबकि 1953, 1954 और 1971 में ऐसा एक भी दिन नहीं रहा था। देश में इस बार गर्मियों का आगमन जल्दी हुआ और कम बारिश एवं कमजोर पश्चिमी विक्षोभ के बीच मार्च तथा अप्रैल में भीषण गर्मी ने देश के कुछ हिस्सों को झुलसा दिया। दिल्ली में इस साल का अप्रैल महीना 1951 के बाद का सबसे गर्म अप्रैल महीना रहा, जिस दौरान औसत अधिकतम तापमान 40.2 डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया।
