कांग्रेस ने कर्नाटक में होने वाले विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए शनिवार को 124 उम्मीदवारों की अपनी पहली सूची जारी की, जिसके अनुसार पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री सिद्धरमैया को वरुणा सीट से चुनावी मैदान में उतारा गया है। सूची के अनुसार, प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी के प्रमुख डी के शिवकुमार अपने कनकपुरा विधानसभा क्षेत्र से चुनाव लड़ेंगे। पार्टी ने पूर्व उपमुख्यमंत्री जी परमेश्वर को कोरातागेरे (एससी) निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से मैदान में उतारा है। पूर्व मंत्री के एच मुनियप्पा और प्रियांक खरगे क्रमशः देवनहल्ली और चितापुर (एससी) से चुनाव लड़ेंगे। प्रियांक कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खरगे के बेटे हैं।
पार्टी की केंद्रीय चुनाव समिति ने 17 मार्च को दिल्ली में एक बैठक के बाद उम्मीदवारों की पहली सूची को मंजूरी दी। समिति की अध्यक्षता कांग्रेस प्रमुख खरगे ने की। बैठक में राहुल गांधी भी मौजूद थे। कर्नाटक विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए अपने उम्मीदवारों की सूची जारी करने वाली कांग्रेस पहली पार्टी है। निर्वाचन आयोग ने दक्षिणी राज्य में विधानसभा चुनाव के कार्यक्रम की अभी घोषणा नहीं की है। कर्नाटक में मौजूदा विधानसभा का कार्यकाल मई में समाप्त होगा। उससे पहले राज्य में चुनाव होने हैं। कांग्रेस दक्षिणी राज्य में भारतीय जनता पार्टी से सत्ता छीनने की कोशिश कर रही है।
