दिल्ली में नए सिरे से महापौर का चुनाव अप्रैल के अंत में होने की संभावना है। आधिकारिक सूत्रों ने सोमवार को यह जानकारी दी। सूत्रों के मुताबिक, नए महापौर के चुने जाने तक शैली ओबेरॉय इस पद का प्रभार संभालती रहेंगी। एक आधिकारिक सूत्र ने कहा, महापौर के पद के लिए अगला चुनाव अप्रैल के अंत में होने की संभावना है। नया महापौर चुने जाने तक शैली ओबेरॉय इस पद पर बनी रहेंगी। आम आदमी पार्टी (आप) की निगम पार्षद शैली ओबेरॉय को 22 फरवरी को दिल्ली का महापौर चुना गया था। उन्होंने भारतीय जनता पार्टी की रेखा गुप्ता को 34 मतों के अंतर से हराया था।
शैली ओबेरॉय को 150 मत मिले थे, जबकि रेखा गुप्ता को कुल 266 मतों में से 116 मत मिले थे। मतदान दिल्ली नगर निगम (एमसीडी) के मुख्यालय सिविक सेंटर में हुआ था। दिल्ली को चौथे प्रयास में उसका महापौर मिला था, क्योंकि मनोनीत सदस्यों को मतदान का अधिकार दिए जाने को लेकर हुए हंगामे के बीच चुनाव नहीं गए थे। इस वित्तीय वर्ष की समाप्ति के बाद दिल्ली को नया महापौर मिलेगा। इस बीच, शैली ओबेरॉय ने सोमवार को शहर-सदर-पहाड़गंज जोन के पार्षदों व अधिकारियों के साथ विकास कार्यों की समीक्षा के लिए विशेष बैठक की।
