कांग्रेस ने केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह के कर्नाटक में एक चुनावी रैली के दौरान ‘रिवर्स गियर’ वाले बयान पर पलटवार करते हुए कहा कि वह व्यक्ति जिसने पहले जीएसटी, मनरेगा और राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा अधिनियम का विरोध किया और फिर इनका अनुसरण किया, वही ‘असली रिवर्स गियर ड्राइवर’ है। शुक्रवार को कर्नाटक में शाह ने कहा, ‘इस चुनाव में एक तरफ राहुल बाबा (राहुल गांधी) के नेतृत्व में कांग्रेस है तो दूसरी तरफ नरेन्द्र मोदी के नेतृत्व में भाजपा है।’
उन्होंने कहा कि यह चुनाव कर्नाटक को आगे ले जाने वाली मोदी के नेतृत्व में ”डबल इंजन” सरकार और राज्य को पीछे ले जाने वाली कांग्रेस की ‘रिवर्स गियर’ की सरकार के बीच फैसला करने का है। पलटवार करते हुए कांग्रेस महासचिव (संचार) जयराम रमेश ने ट्विटर पर कहा, ‘भारत को एकजुट करने के लिए कन्याकुमारी से कश्मीर तक पदयात्रा करने वाला व्यक्ति ‘रिवर्स गियर’ में नहीं है।’ प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और भाजपा पर निशाना साधते हुए कांग्रेस नेता ने कहा, ‘वह व्यक्ति जिसने पहले जीएसटी, मनरेगा और राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा अधिनियम का विरोध किया और फिर इनका अनुसरण किया, वही ‘असली रिवर्स गियर ड्राइवर’ है।’
