आम आदमी पार्टी (आप) 26 अप्रैल को होने वाले दिल्ली नगर निगम (एमसीडी) महापौर चुनाव में शैली ओबेरॉय और आले मोहम्मद इकबाल को फिर से क्रमश: महापौर तथा उप महापौर पद का उम्मीदवार बनाएगी। पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता संजय सिंह ने सोमवार को यह जानकारी दी। वर्तमान में शैली ओबेरॉय महापौर और मोहम्मद इकबाल उप महापौर हैं। सिंह ने एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में कहा कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाषा) ने पहले भी महापौर चुनाव में खलल डालने की कोशिश की थी, लेकिन फिर भी ‘आप’ की जीत हुई। उन्होंने कहा, हम महापौर और उप महापौर पद के लिए क्रमश: शैली ओबेरॉय और आले मोहम्मद इकबाल को ही उम्मीदवार बनाएंगे। इससे पहले हुए महापौर चुनाव में भाजपा की बाधा डालने की कोशिशों के बावजूद ‘आप’ विजयी हुई थी। हमारे उम्मीदवार इस बार भी चुनाव जीतेंगे।
दिल्ली नगर निगम (एमसीडी) में हर वित्तीय वर्ष के अंत के बाद नए सिरे से महापौर का चुनाव होता है। एमसीडी में पहले वर्ष के लिए महापौर का पद महिला के लिए आरक्षित रहता है, दूसरे वर्ष में पद किसी वर्ग के लिए आरक्षित नहीं होता। तीसरे वर्ष आरक्षित वर्ग का व्यक्ति ही चुनाव लड़ सकता है और अन्य दो वर्ष किसी भी वर्ग का व्यक्ति चुनाव लड़ सकता है। तीन निगमों को एमसीडी में एकीकृत करने के बाद एक नए परिसीमन की कवायद की गई थी, जिसमें 2012 के मुकाबले वार्डों की कुल संख्या 272 से घटाकर 250 कर दी गई थी। दिल्ली में पिछले चार दिसंबर को नगर निकाय चुनाव हुए थे, जिसमें आम आदमी पार्टी (आप) ने जीत दर्ज की थी।
