कांग्रेस ने सरकार द्वारा पेट्रोल और डीजल पर उत्पाद शुल्क में कटौती किये जाने के एक दिन बाद रविवार को भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) पर चालबाजी के जरिये पैदा करने का आरोप लगाया और कहा कि लोग रिकॉर्ड महंगाई से वास्तविक राहत पाने के हकदार हैं। कांग्रेस के पूर्व प्रमुख राहुल गांधी ने एक ट्वीट के जरिये 1, मई 2020 और आज के पेट्रोल के दामों की तुलना की और कहा कि सरकार को लोगों को मूर्ख बनाना बंद कर देना चाहिये।

उन्होंने कहा कि साल 2014 में उत्पाद शुल्क 9.48 रुपये था और 2022 में यह 19.9 रुपये हो गया। वल्लभ ने कहा, तीन कदम आगे बढ़कर दो कदम पीछे लौटने का मतलब यह नहीं होता कि इससे आम आदमी के जीवन में कोई फर्क पड़ा है। वल्लभ ने कहा कि अप्रैल 2014 में डीजल पर प्रति लीटर उत्पाद शुल्क 3.56 रुपये था जबकि मई 2022 में यह 15.8 रुपये है। उन्होंने कहा, कीमतें मार्च 2022 के समय पर लौट आई हैं। क्या आम लोग मार्च 2022 में ईंधन की कीमतों से खुश थे? जवाब है नहीं। वल्लभ ने कहा कि पेट्रोल की कीमतों में पिछले 60 दिनों में 10 रुपये प्रति लीटर रुपये की वृद्धि होती है और फिर 9.5 रुपये प्रति लीटर की कटौती की जाती है। क्या यह चालबाजी नहीं है।
उन्होंने कहा कि डीजल के दामों में पिछले 60 दिनों में 10 रुपये प्रति लीटर का इजाफा होता है और फिर सात रुपये प्रति लीटर की कमी की जाती है। यह कैसा कल्याण है? वल्लभ ने बताया कि मई-2014 और मई-2022 के बीच रसोई गैस की कीमतों में 142 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि हुई है। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया, पिछले 18 महीनों में एलपीजी की कीमतों में 400 रुपये से अधिक की वृद्धि हुई है। 200 रुपये की कटौती का मतलब लोगों का कल्याण नहीं है, बल्कि कम मात्रा में खून चूसना है।
