पैगंबर मोहम्मद के बारे में कथित विवादास्पद टिप्पणी के मामले में निलंबित भाजपा प्रवक्ता नुपुर शर्मा की गिरफ्तारी की मांग को लेकर यहां जुमे की नमाज के बाद लोगों ने जामा मस्जिद के बाहर प्रदर्शन किया। जामा मस्जिद परिसर में बड़ी संख्या में लोग एकत्र हुए जिनमें से कुछ ने तख्तियां ले रखी थीं। प्रदर्शन करने वालों ने नारेबाजी की। पुलिस के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने कहा कि कुछ लोग थोड़े समय बाद वहां से चले गए लेकिन कुछ लोग जमे रहे।
उन्होंने कहा कि शांतिपूर्ण तरीके से शुरू हुआ प्रदर्शन करीब 10 से 15 मिनट तक चला। दिल्ली पुलिस ने कथित रूप से नफरत फैलाने और धार्मिक भावनाओं को आहत करने के मामले में एआईएमआईएम प्रमुख असदुद्दीन ओवैसी और विवादास्पद संत यति नरसिंहानंद समेत 31 लोगों के खिलाफ प्राथमिकी दर्ज की है। पूर्व भाजपा प्रवक्ता नुपुर शर्मा के खिलाफ भी मामला दर्ज किया गया है। प्राथमिकी में भाजपा की दिल्ली इकाई के पूर्व मीडिया प्रमुख नवीन कुमार जिंदल और पत्रकार सबा नकवी के भी नाम हैं।
