कांग्रेस के पूर्व अध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी ने कई खाद्य वस्तुओं को माल एवं सेवा कर (जीएसटी) के दायरे में लाए जाने को लेकर सोमवार को आरोप लगाया कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने दुनिया की एक तेजी से उभरती अर्थव्यवस्था को बर्बाद कर दिया। उन्होंने दही, लस्सी, पनीर और कई अन्य वस्तुओं पर जीएसटी लगाए जाने से जुड़ा एक चार्ट साझा करते हुए ट्वीट किया, ”उच्च दर वाला कर, कोई रोजगार नहीं।

यह उच्च कोटि का उदाहरण है कि भाजपा ने कैसे दुनिया की सबसे तेजी से उभरती अर्थव्यवस्थाओं में से एक को नष्ट कर दिया।”
जीएसटी परिषद के फैसले लागू होने के बाद सोमवार से कई खाद्य वस्तुएं महंगी हो गई हैं। इनमें पहले से पैक और लेबल वाले खाद्य पदार्थ जैसे आटा, पनीर और दही शामिल हैं, जिन पर पांच प्रतिशत जीएसटी देना होगा। इस तरह 5,000 रुपये से अधिक किराये वाले अस्पताल के कमरों पर भी जीएसटी देना होगा। इसके अलावा 1,000 रुपये प्रतिदिन से कम किराये वाले होटल के कमरों पर 12 प्रतिशत की दर से कर लगाने की बात कही गयी है। अभी इसपर कोई कर नहीं लगता है।
