केन्द्र सरकार ने बृहस्पतिवार को बताया कि देश में वर्ष 2017 से 2020 के दौरान सड़क दुर्घटनाओं में 4.46 लाख से अधिक लोगों की मौत हुई। केंद्रीय सड़क परिवहन एवं राजमार्ग मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने लोकसभा में एक प्रश्न के उत्तर में यह जानकारी दी। मंत्री की ओर से मुहैया कराए गए आंकड़े के अनुसार, सड़क दुर्घटनाओं में वर्ष 2017 में 1,47,913 लोगों की मौत हुई। इसी तरह वर्ष 2018 में 1,51,417, वर्ष 2019 में 1,51,113 और 2020 में 1,31,714 लोगों की मौत हुई। गडकरी ने बताया कि उनके मंत्रालय ने सड़क सुरक्षा के मुद्दे पर बहुआयामी रणनीति तैयार की है जो शिक्षा, इंजीनियरिंग, प्रवर्तन और आपातकालीन देखभाल पर आधारित है।
